U.S.-Mexico Trade Security Symposium
decision/analysis partners organized four one-day bilingual conferences in Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Tijuana, Mexico on behalf of the U.S. Trade and Development
Agency. Each conference had plenary sessions and four breakout sessions. There was a Tech Expo exhibit, of up to 20 U.S. companies in each city, during the lunch hours. It was a bilingual event.
U.S.-Mexico University Partnership for Prosperity Conference
The Training, Internships, Exchanges and Scholarships (TIES) initiative is a component of the Partnership for Prosperity between Mexico and the United States. USAID/Mexico, in cooperation
with the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City, developed the TIES initiative to respond to goals set by Presidents Bush and Fox. The purpose of the U.S.-Mexico University Partnerships for Prosperity three-day
conference was to bring together U.S. and Mexican University participants in the TIES program in Guadalajara, Mexico, to provide one another updates on the status of their initiatives, and to network with one
another.
Brazil Construction Orientation Visit
The objective of this Orientation Visit (OV) is to help encourage the adoption of standards for the construction industry in Brazil that will facilitate the entry of US sources of supply of alternative construction
technology and materials, focusing on technical standards for construction and on the latest advances in US construction technology and practices.
This OV exposed high-level Brazilian government officials and regulators to: 1) Latest improvements in construction technology, especially for housing applications. 2) U.S. construction materials, testing
methods, and standards. 3) A seminar on best practices in the construction industry.
Romania Rail Orientation Visit
The objective of this Orientation Visit was to introduce or reintroduce key rail decision makers from Romania to relevant, competitive U.S. products and services in order to encourage the development of relationships and sales to Romania. Because of our own interest in the transportation industry and in the rail sector in particular, we keep abreast of U.S. competitiveness in these sectors. The orientation visit schedule focused on common areas of interest.
- Freight Motive Power: A focus on technology, financing, maintenance and repair of diesel-electric locomotives and heavy-haul technology.
- Network Management Systems: Signals, electronics and software designed to help manage the rail network.
- Consulting and Engineering: Management consulting, engineering and project management services.
Visits included Amtrak and the Federal Railroad Administration, BNSF's operations center in Fort Worth, a tour of General Motors' Electro-Motive Division (EMD), in LaGrange, IL, a visit to Caterpillar in Indiana,
and a tour of BNSF's Willow Springs intermodal yard.(photo gallery)
